The leaves are better there.
And though as yet he cannot fly
His leaves he does not share.
The dik-diks browse way below
Impalas higher still.
The gerenuk’s neck will still grow
So he can have his fill.
Samburu’s plain is where I swa,
So dainty on the tree,
The gentle gerenuk’s front paw.
A sight that if you see
Your thoughts, like mine, might wander far
To times as yet to come.
Imagination has no bar
And so I did succumb.
Right now, the gerenuk’s so small,
My thought may make you laugh –
One day he’ll grow immensely tall,
As tall as the giraffe.
