To solve problems successfully All of us would like to see
A bigger role globally For WBCSD.
Engagement with India is very wise As India now is on the rise.
The economy is growing fast And it is likely this will last.
But good employment is hard to find. Some indeed are left behind.
The benefits are very clear
If the economy spreads its cheer To every Indian everywhere.
The outcome’s best when we share! Economic growth has a role
In achieving every SDG goal
But for Climate change it is a threat How will our energy needs be met? Energy conservation’s the way to go. Yet energy use continues to grow.
India, while at COP26 Suggested a presumptuous fix. 500 GW by 2030
Of energy that isn’t dirty! Solar’s share is already weighty In GW it’s more than 80.
Wind and Hydro are also there And Biomass has a rising share. With all of these now on the scene 200 GW are green.
Climate change is now dire. The world could soon be on fire. It is no longer like the past.
We need to act very fast.
With climate change there is more heat. The reservoirs can deplete.
Then hydroelectricity is a pain.
Though solar generation might be a gain. 500 GW is quite an ask.
This will be an onerous task.
Whether groundnut shell or bagasse Our India's full of biomass.
New bamboo varieties are on the way They can help to save the day.
These varieties rapidly grow.
The energy’s high and ash is low. They can help our green goal
At prices that compete with coal! The advantage would be very wide If carbon credits are applied!
Many benefits we can reap: A fuel that is very cheap.
Biodiversity can be maintained. Other products can be gained. The stalks regrow very fast.
But the roots will still last, Sequester carbon continually These are the benefits that we see. Three years is all it takes to grow.
The income is a steady flow.
For farmers there is much to gain. Though harvesting is a pain.
But we should bear in mind There are solutions we can find. We can insert an FPO. Plantations are a way to go!
The economics look quite sound
But transition solutions must be found. For industry this will fly
Only with a steady supply. To take cultivation in hand
Farmer’s need regular demand. Don’t you think it would be wise
If the government could incentivise? Just a little early traction
Would lead to a chain reaction. There can be one more gain Once we have a supply chain
Agri waste briquettes can be tried. Other biofuels can be supplied.
Solid fuel is not the only way Gasification can have a role to play. Natural gas pipelines are already there, Which biogas could easily share.
Wind and solar come and go We don’t have a reliable flow. While biomass cogeneration
Is great for a continuous operation. Whether we use biomass
Or we convert it to biogas
Base load energy can be supplied.
So large scale biomass should be tried. Or else our storage needs would soar And if batteries are at the core,
We’d need a proper supply chain Or else it could be a major pain.
There are many minerals that we lack To make a proper battery stack.
And in the Godrej Industries Group Biomass is in the loop.
Wherever we have a continuous operation We use biomass cogeneration.
In fossil fuel use we’ve made a dent Biomass will soon be 70%!
There are many challenges one sees For decarbonisation of MSMEs.
There are solutions that we see As we proceed on our Scope 3. Incentives can pave the way.
Green finance can be brought in play.
Let us rapidly turn the page
And enter the Green Hydrogen Age. Though fossil fuels have had their day It will take time to phase them away.
But before we go completely green There is some hope that can be seen.
The mines, the fields from which we source Can also be a rich resource.
Now CO2 can take us far When it’s used for EOR.
But when you use even more
Some more oil’s pushed out for sure. Though not enough to make it pay.
A carbon price could pave the way And technology would save the day. Clean hydrogen is what we need
If we are to really succeed. Many advantages we can see One example’s mobility.
Especially trucks, rail, air and sea. And it could be the key
In many aspects of Chemistry. Many technologies can be seen Some are blue, some very green.
From coal or gas with sequestration (For fossil fuel reforming a reformation), Electrolysis using green energy.
Another option that we see Is reforming of solid biomass Or why not even biogas?
This hydrogen would be green But if sequestration’s also seen This would be quite another hue A combination of green and blue The coolest colour, which I feel We could then call cyan or teal! But in order to properly reap
The benefits, it should be cheap. Good solutions should be in place As they could prove to be our ace. Green hydrogen is now the rage It’s the turning of a novel page.
Electrolyser costs will fall This will benefit us all.
We will also steadily see Improvements in efficiency. Many benefits we can reap Once hydrogen is really cheap! But we can’t wait very long.
The government response needs to be strong.
Costs will come down as we reach scale. There are benefits producers must avail. A PLI will hasten things
Rapid scale is what it brings. With technology let’s be agnostic. For if we try to be prognostic
We may not correctly foresee The most efficient technology.
There’s scope for both green and blue, As long as it’s a cleaner hue!
Green energy is not the only way Sequestration has a role to play. Many solutions can be found
With mines and oilfields underground. Multiple benefits is what one sees With water projects or growing trees. Good livelihoods are created.
Our carbon emissions are abated. Trees planted at a river’s source Maintain the flow throughout its course. So many benefits we can see:
The preservation of biodiversity, Now different species can be tried Useful products can be supplied Like biomass or edible fruits
And yet the trunk and the roots
Can sequester carbon, clean the air, A win win that is very fair.
So, while we decarbonise Why not also monetise.
So never fall for either or,
Our hearts and minds demand much more. Through action and advocacy
We can help all humanity
To create a world that’s just and fair And everyone is free to share Nature’s bounty and be fulfilled
And then I’m sure we’d all be thrilled. The question now is really whether All of us can pull together.
We will get collective traction Only with committed action. The only way we can gain
Is to unitedly sustain!
